What do you do with items in your house that is no longer being used? Send them to the garbage? Let them pile up? Isn’t the idea of giving them away for free to those needing it sounds like a better idea?

Today at Blog Action Day, WebSights will be featuring a concept that have spread to over 75 countries and have helped decrease an estimate of over 300 tons of waste a day out of our landfills - Freecycling.

Freecycle aims to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community. By giving freely with no strings attached, members of The Freecycle Network help instill a sense of generosity of spirit as they strengthen local community ties and promote environmental sustainability and reuse. People from all walks of life have joined together to turn trash into treasure.

The concept basically operates like this: anyone with things to be given away will be posting their items up for grabs in the Freecycle mailing list. Interested persons will then contact them. Easy isn’t it?

For those in the Philippines, you can join the Freecycle Yahoo Group and start changing the world one gift at a time.
